hearding spiders

I was reading today, as I occasionally have the luxury of doing, and a woman was remarking that watching over small children in a public place is much akin to "hearding spiders." That was the most perfect description I have ever heard! Now for a video of my tiny spider...

and then i won 20 bucks

With Dave back and on summer vacation we've been trying to catch up on everything we put off since January... as usual when we've actual time together, procrastination has taken over...we prefer to curl up on the couch with a movie rental to doing dishes or housework. This might not bode well for our house guests next week (sorry T &K)!

Really now we must get motivated because I've got a rather large order for a shop here in SD, and I can't work when the house has piles of rubble abounding in every corner. Yikes!

I'd put up some pics, but it's really that bad... instead I'll leave you with a couple more New Zealand photos, and a few of what we've been doing instead of attending to chores.

I saw a picture of this beach in the HomeGoods store

em and grandma at lunch... she was scared of the sea gulls

we take driving seriously ;)

riding on the BIG swing, she will no longer ride on the "baby" one

tattoos for everyone!

(notice the sink full of dishes in the background)

Kiwis

The last few weeks have been hectic, with birthdays, graduations, and, well, not much sewing! To add a little of a twist, Dave took a trip to New Zealand with our friend Dave H. for two weeks. He returned last Wednesday with stories, gorgeous pictures, and a stuffed kiwi for Em. As I get on the machine, I'll post pics of some of my newest creations... for now these photos of Dave's adventures in NZ will have to do!

...and we're back!

I've been terrible about this blogging business lately. Also, I've been terrible about sewing, projects, and anything within the realm of being creative. This summer I'm the in charge of arts and crafts for a day camp, so I figured I'd better get inspired. Here are some recent pics of em to start things off. I am madly making camp projects tonight so those should be up sometime this week.

fashionista

for the last couple of weeks, emma has had a Very strong opinion on what she does (and does not) want to wear. the outfit she choose this morning though, was, well, quite an outfit.
in case you can't see it all too clearly, here is an account of the ensemble she put together: red tee shirt with chinese dragons all over, black yoga pants, a red corduroy dress she absolutely insisted she wear, red beaded necklace, pink hawaiian flip-flops, and a rhinestone pacifier... i can't wait until she's a teenager.

midnight madness

before...
sometimes, i just can't sleep no matter how hard i try. it was that way last night... dave was out of the house, studying, emma was sleeping, and the house was relatively (i use that word loosely) organized. i could have gone to bed, but instead i kept thinking of fun projects. so i painted emma's rocking chair, which i've been meaning to do for quite some time now. the pictures don't show it well, but it was a strange, grey green color and very scratched up when we acquired it. i wanted something a bit brighter in her room so we went with a turquoise color of sorts. i'm thinking of hand painting a design on it... but only if i have the midnight hour to myself again!

after... a much sunnier shade, don't you think?

last weekend of march

this weekend was a relief from the hot weather we've been having here in san diego. after church (and a party for the porters), our friends invited us to go feed the ducks with them at paradise point. we went to the wild animal park with the girls last week and the ducks seemed to be the biggest hit, so we figured this would be the perfect ending to the weekend. after searching high and low for ducks that even wanted our bread, we found a hungry bunch...
